Long Distance Wireless Backhaul Deployment
Proposed links for January 2006 deployment
Beginning in early January, the full team (RJ, Matt, and Melissa) will be present in Ghana to start work on the long distance wireless backhaul network linking Kumasi National University of Science and Technology to the University of Ghana in Legon and the University of Cape Coast.

RJ has already completed the first set of links, to University of Cape Coast, as of the end of October 2005. For some details about that particular deployment you can consult the slides from his presentation at the October 2005 TIER Workshop [PPT] [PDF]. Between malaria, power outages, corruption, and a number of other obstacles, he managed to get a link set up towards the University of Cape Coast, and we will continue his work by completing the remaining 8 links in January.

Our partner on this project is Arrow Networks, who are providing the towers and engineers for the project.

The links will be used by the universities to share databases between the libraries, allowing them to share the cost of subscription fees (£30,000/year).
